Understanding Sihr (Black Magic)

Sihr refers to hidden, supernatural acts that cause harm or change a person’s state by invoking help from devils. Allah says in the Qur’an that those who practise magic learn what harms them and brings no benefit.

وَمَا يُعَلِّمَانِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ حَتَّىٰ يَقُولَا إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ فِتْنَةٌ فَلَا تَكْفُرْ

“But they (the angels) did not teach anyone until they had said, ‘We are a trial, so do not disbelieve [by practising magic].’”

(Surah al-Baqarah 2:102)

Magic is a reality, not fantasy. The Prophet ﷺ himself was afflicted by Sihr for a period of time until Allah cured him through the revelation of Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nās. These chapters remain among the most powerful weapons against all forms of magic and evil.

How to Destroy Sihr (Black Magic)

This method is a simple yet powerful way to neutralise and destroy Sihr through Qur’anic Ruqyah. Always begin with sincere intention and full trust in Allah. Never resort to charms, talismans, or those who claim to control Jinn, this is strictly forbidden.

What You’ll Need:

• (Disposable) gloves
• A container
• Ruqyah water
• Lighter or matches

Step 1: Prepare Ruqyah water by using SunnahCure Ruqyah Sheets or by reading over clean water yourself. It should include the following verses recited seven times each:

• Surah al-A‘rāf (7:117–122)
• Surah Yūnus (10:81–82)
• Surah Ṭāhā (20:68–70)
• Surah al-Falaq
• Surah an-Nās
• Āyat al-Kursī (2:255)

Step 2: Put on gloves and place the Sihr item (if found) into the Ruqyah water. Leave it submerged for 20–30 minutes.

Step 3: Remove it and allow it to dry completely.

Step 4: Once dry, burn the Sihr while reciting Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nās. If burning is not possible, destroy it as much as you can and throw it in the rubbish, where it will go to the incinerator.

Ruqyah Verses Against Sihr

The following Qur’anic verses are among the most effective and authentic means for destroying Sihr. They should be recited regularly with full belief that only Allah can heal and protect.

وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ أَنْ أَلْقِ عَصَاكَ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ ۝ فَوَقَعَ الْحَقُّ وَبَطَلَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ ۝ فَغُلِبُوا هُنَالِكَ وَانقَلَبُوا صَاغِرِينَ ۝ وَأُلْقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ سَاجِدِينَ ۝ قَالُوا آمَنَّا بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ۝ رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ

“And We inspired to Moses, ‘Throw your staff,’ and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. And the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, ‘We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, the Lord of Moses and Aaron.’”

(Surah al-A‘rāf 7:117–122)

فَلَمَّا أَلْقَوْا قَالَ مُوسَىٰ مَا جِئْتُم بِهِ السِّحْرُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَيُبْطِلُهُ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُصْلِحُ عَمَلَ الْمُفْسِدِينَ ۝ وَيُحِقُّ اللَّهُ الْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَاتِهِ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ الْمُجْرِمُونَ

“So when they had thrown, Moses said, ‘What you have brought is [only] magic. Indeed, Allah will expose its worthlessness. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of corrupters. And Allah will establish the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it.’”

(Surah Yūnus 10:81–82)

قُلْنَا لَا تَخَفْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْأَعْلَىٰ ۝ وَأَلْقِ مَا فِي يَمِينِكَ تَلْقَفْ مَا صَنَعُوا ۖ إِنَّمَا صَنَعُوا كَيْدُ سَاحِرٍ ۖ وَلَا يُفْلِحُ السَّاحِرُ حَيْثُ أَتَىٰ

“We said, ‘Fear not. Indeed, it is you who are superior. And throw what is in your right hand; it will swallow up what they have crafted. What they have crafted is but the trick of a magician, and the magician will not succeed wherever he is.’”

(Surah Ṭāhā 20:68–70)

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ ۚ لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۗ مَن ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۖ وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ

“Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”

(Surah al-Baqarah 2:255)

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ ۝ مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ ۝ وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ ۝ وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ ۝ وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

“Say, ‘I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak, from the evil of that which He created, and from the evil of darkness when it settles, and from the evil of the blowers in knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.’”

(Surah al-Falaq 113:1–5)

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ ۝ مَلِكِ النَّاسِ ۝ إِلَٰهِ النَّاسِ ۝ مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ ۝ الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ ۝ مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ

“Say, ‘I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, who whispers in the breasts of mankind, of jinn and men.’”

(Surah an-Nās 114:1–6)

These verses combine protection, truth, and healing. When recited with faith, they dissolve the effects of Sihr, repel Jinn, and renew one’s spiritual strength. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Recite Surah al-Baqarah, for taking it brings blessing and abandoning it brings regret, and the magicians cannot overcome it.” (Sahih Muslim, 804)
